Balos and Elafonisi are famous for its wild nature, with turquoise waters and white sands turning to amazing shades of pink in some places. At their legendary lagoon waters are shallow. Therefore, it is perfect for kids and lovely for grownups too.
From Platanos village you can visit the exotic Balos Beach and Grambousa by car (30 minute drive and walk about 25 minutes). Alternativelly, you can visit it by boat from the harbor of Falassarna (45 minutes) or the harbor of Kissamos (1 hour).
Similiarly, about 1 hour from Falassarna there is also the exotic beach Elafonissi and Kedrodasos (cedar forest). After that, it is worth visiting the Monastery Panagias Chrisoskalitissa which is also situated in the same area.
Last but not least don’t miss to visit the ruins of ancient Falasarna. The ruins of Ancient Falasarna are north of the beach. Here, you can see the ruins of the acropolis, the city walls, and some houses, as well as tombs and a throne made of stone, thought to be dedicated to the god of the sea, Poseidon.
Falasarna minted its own money. However, the coins show a figure of a woman on one side, and the initials FA (ΦΑ) between the points of a trident on the reverse side.
